Market and Trade Fair Booming: Over 16,000 Visitors attend FIBO CHINA 2016

The fitness wave in China continues to roll and is taking FIBO CHINA to new heights. With 16,097 visitors, 75% of these buyers from the fitness sector, it has established its position as the most important trade show for the international fitness sector in Asia. Compared to last year the number of visitors has doubled (2015: 8018). With a plus of over 30% in exhibitor numbers and a 50% increase in space joint organisers Reed Exhibitions Deutschland GmbH, organiser of FIBO in Cologne, and Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions, have also recorded strong growth impulses for their cross-border project. 111 exhibitors (2015: 87) represented more than 260 brands. FIBO CHINA 2016 was held in Shanghai from 8 to 10 September.

“The breakthrough was also assisted by the know-how of international market leaders in the fitness sector for which China is becoming an ever more important sales market,” explained Hans-Joachim Erbel, CEO at Reed Exhibitions Deutschland GmbH. “We are delighted that even more international brands have come to FIBO CHINA this year. The positioning of the trade show in the premium segment is indispensable for us”. Those exhibiting at FIBO CHINA 2016 included gym80, Kettler, Life Fitness, Matrix, Miha Bodytec, Piloxing, Precor, SportsArt, Technogym and Zumba. Numerous companies from Asia as well as distributors located here were also present.

More Business, More Structure

The new three-way division of the trade show into the FIBO EXPERT, FIBO PASSION and FIBO POWER segments produced a positive verdict. FIBO EXPERT, held for the first time in its own hall, convinced people with its calm business atmosphere as an attractive marketplace and professional networking platform. Accounting for just under 75%, buyers from the fitness sector formed the largest visitor group at the show. Some 8,000 visitors to the trade show came from fitness clubs. What was particularly pleasant was the proportion of international trade visitors. “FIBO CHINA is becoming increasingly established as a marketplace for the fitness sector in Asia overall and is becoming a magnet for the international business,” said Ralph Scholz, FIBO Event Director, at the end of the show. A total of 1126 visitors came to the show from 40 countries outside China, including predominantly Taiwan, the USA, Russia, South Korea, India, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Indonesia.

However, the ever growing number of active fitness club members in China were also catered to at FIBO CHINA. Fitness fans found all sorts of offerings in the group fitness, clothing and accessories, sport nutrition, weight training and body building segments.

Hu Kunping, Managing Director at Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions, showed satisfaction at the qualitative growth. “FIBO CHINA plays an important role in the fitness industry in China and the wider Asian region. Sinopharm is the leading player in the Chinese health sector. This wealth of knowledge is channelled into the fitness sector by Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions. We are delighted at the vast increase achieved this year. More and more studio operators, instructors, representatives from clinics and universities have visited FIBO CHINA. This is where fitness meets the future.” 

To strengthen the trade visitor focus, in the run-up and on site there was a comprehensive supporting programme. For instance, the “3rd FIBO CHINA Forum for the Future Development of the Fitness Industry” was held here, aimed at investors and owners of fitness clubs, at retailers as well as leading Chinese business representatives. Forming a bridgehead between China and the rest of the world, held here were numerous lectures complementing the range on display at the exhibitors’ stands.

FIBO CHINA 2017 will once again be held in Shanghai from 7 to 9 September 2017.
