House of trends at Decorex Joburg

30 Jul 2015

Visitors heading to Decorex Joburg over the August Women’s Day weekend to discover the latest home and interior décor trends, need look no further than the Private Property Trend House feature.

With a team comprising of some of Gauteng’s leading designers, decorators and product manufacturers behind the staging of a five-room house, in which all the very latest products and home trends will be on view, this walk-through design experience will be interactive and inspiring. Designers will also be on hand to assist visitors with tips and ideas for their own homes.

Decorex Joburg takes place from 6-10 August 2015, at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand. Sponsored by Private Property, the country’s definitive online property resource, the Private Property Trend House will offer a bedroom and en-suite bathroom, a kitchen, a cigar lounge, an office and open-plan lounge and patio area.

Décor Identity will be creating the bedroom, with a modern-chic black-and-white theme. "There will be accents of smart navy, together with green elements, such as an array of sculptural cacti," says owner of the interior-design firm, Elisha Annadale, who will be drawing heavily on the darker, highly textured upholsteries, wallpapers and trimmings from international fabric house, Romo, for her installation.

Feeding into the current love of graphic geometric patterning, Annadale says visitors can also expect this to add "an unexpected, creative element" to her otherwise timeless, formal style bedroom.

The latest trends in bathrooms, will be on display in the house’s Geberit-designed bathroom. "The present emphasis on an enhanced sense of spaciousness combined with an elegant minimalist look and increased functionality will be the focus of our installation," says Dorianne Isaacman, Head of Retail Sales & Marketing at Geberit South Africa.

Isaacman explains that the leading bathroom-sanitary manufacturer will use Decorex Joburg to showcase its Omega concealed cistern with the compact Omega60 glass dual-flush actuator plate, along with the Keramag Xeno2 range of sanitary products from Germany, including the ultra-hygienic Keramag Xeno2 Rimfree toilet.

"Also on display will be the innovative new Geberit CleanLine shower channel, which fulfills all the requirements for trend-setting sanitary technology – from the high discharge rate of the flat trap and the well-tested installation and sealing technology, right through to the function and shape of the shower channel itself," she says, adding that "Geberit continues its association with Decorex as the show’s appeal and décor and design focus attracts a diverse audience with whom the company can network and engage."

For long-time exhibitor Zubair Patel, Director at Oppein, whose slick cabinetry, appliances and accessories will have a starring role in the Trend House kitchen, Decorex Joburg presents "the ideal opportunity to liaise with a serious, high-caliber clientele".

Patel says to expect a very unique kitchen inspired by European design trends and featuring an abundance of voluptuous arches and organic curves. "We are also now seeing a complete about-turn on the high-gloss lacquer look of the past and this kitchen will feature an entirely contemporary matt finish," he adds.

Reflecting the strong move towards masculine undertones in 2015, the Private Property Trend House will also feature a stylish racing-themed cigar lounge designed by Spitfire Furniture, says the handmade-furniture company’s owner Josh Bromme: "This will be a cool, comfortable and functional space in which we will showcase Hollywood icon Steve McQueen – think Porsche 917, Gulf Oil livery, café racer paraphernalia, you name it... There will be a selection of custom-made pieces, including a Steam Punk coffee machine – the result of a collaboration between Spitfire and Truth Coffee."

On display in the patio area of the Trend House will be the intricately detailed King Diamond Classic eight-seater outdoor set, as well as iconic Grape pool loungers and tables, from Anray, one of the largest cast-aluminium garden furniture manufacturers in South Africa. "While we obviously want to use Decorex as a platform to showcase to members of the public our extensive range of cast powder-coated furniture, we are also hoping to make contact with new agents and retailers," says Anray’s Director Raymond Hsu.

Finally, American Shutters will be installed in two areas of the Private Property Trend House: The bi-fold shutter doors in the lounge area and the hinged window shutters in the bedroom. Karina Palmer of American Shutters says visitors should look out for the popular Decowood shutters at the show. “They are elegant, efficient and cost effective,” she says, adding that “shutters allow you to create a versatile and beautiful extension of your home and, by enclosing a deck or terrace with aluminium shutters, you will gain essential added security."

Sue Clarke, Marketing Manager at Private Property says: "We have a great history with Decorex SA, having used the 2013 exhibition to promote, an all-encompassing property portal offering everything from buying trends and advice to a comprehensive database of agent- and privately-marketed homes for sale and rent. Private Property will have a dedicated space within the Trend House installation, providing the perfect platform from which to engage our customers, with whom we normally only interact in the virtual domain; to have ‘real’ conversations and to communicate our core brand message: namely, that there’s a home for everyone at Private Property."

Not only will visitors to the Decorex Private Property Trend House have access to their Advice Centre, with the very latest market-related facts and figures, plus hands-on advice on how to search for the home of their dreams, they will also be able to draw real-life design and decorating inspiration from the creative spaces on display, using this to transform the bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens and living areas of their own homes.

"We know that South Africans are proud homeowners, forever looking for new ways to improve their lifestyles and increase the value of their homes. The Trend House will give them all that, and more," says Clarke, adding that Private Property will be offering visitors to Decorex Joburg a special on the 11th edition of Property Power magazine, an invaluable all-in-one guide to property in South Africa. Added to this Private Property has included a novel Neighbourhoods section to their website and will be promoting this new addition by partnering with the Times Media Group and handing out the Sunday Times Neighbourhood Property & Lifestyle Magazine on Sunday 9th August at the show.

What Decorex SA and 100% Design South Africa continue to show us is that this country has a wealth of talent capable of setting standards on a global design platform," says Sian Gutstadt, Portfolio Director of Decorex SA. "This collaboration with Private Property encourages local designers to flaunt their skills using the ultimate purpose-built shared space as their creative canvas."
